About
It was years back when I was praying to have a child without asking for a healthy one, I just wanted to have a child, a child that would fill my day with joy and happiness. Yes, my prayers were heard. We were blessed with a baby boy named Kristian born on April 24, 2004. We were all so happy that he was finally here, especially me because I was a mother, I had someone to finally call me “Mom”.
The bad news came a year later when he was diagnosed with Beta Thalassemia Major, a blood disorder where the red blood cells can’t carry oxygen to all parts of the body. The shock, the sadness, the fear and a thousand questions whirled through my mind on that day. Not only my life, but my son’s life was changed forever. All my happiness vanished before my eyes on that very day.
Kristian’s was put on monthly blood transfusions. In the last 3 ½ years Kristian needed a blood transfusion every 3 to 4 weeks. Because of the frequent blood transfusions his body starts collecting a lot of iron. Another therapy came to his life, a chaletion therapy, something that he has to do for the rest of his life.
Every night I’m inserting an IV like into his stomach or tights connected to a pump that pumps a medication that helps to remove the iron overload from his body. The pump is running for 6 days a week, 12 hours each day.
Kristian is one brave little boy, he is our hero. Day by day is getting harder and harder and more stressful for this little body to handle all this.
Kristian was very lucky to get a donor with a perfect match for a Bone Marrow Transplant which is scheduled for March 17, 2010. This is only chance we can give Kristian’s a better tomorrow.
Please, forward this site to your friends and connections to help Kristian (KIKI) that is desperately in need.
